South Africa: JRS Hosts an Education Workshop
17 July 2018

Ms. Jean Shaba presents an Education Workshop.

Johannesburg,17 July 2018-- JRS South Africa coordinated an education workshop for  refugees to learn about a unique UNHCR scholarship opportunity, called DAFI. DAFI, or the Albert Einstein German Refugee Initiative, is a scholarship program funded by the German government and Saïd Foundation to support tertiary education for deserving refugees worldwide.

Before introducing the DAFI representative, JRS introduced the new Education Coordinator, Ms. Jean Shaba. Ms. Shaba has extensive experience working with refugee education programs in Malawi. She proceeded to introduce the new Action Committee members, who will act as liaisons between clients and JRS.

After these introductions, Mr. Mthusi Moebodi, a DAFI representative from StudyTrust, joined us at JRS to explain the details of the scholarship and how to apply. The scholarship includes funding for tuition fees, books, accommodations, food, and transportation. Refugees under the age of 35 can apply with a motivational letter, provisional acceptance letter to any university, and proper documentation. Mr. Moebodi gave specific instructions on how and when to apply, answering questions and offering feedback.

DAFI believes in supporting refugees to achieve their highest potential through education. JRS will offer refugees support in submitting applications for this competitive scholarship.
