Johannesburg, 30 May 2016 - The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS), half an hour slot, that is part of the afternoon, drive time radio show on Radio Veritas, at 16:30 PM, features interviews from across the JRS Southern Africa Region. JRS, Southern Africa Region, Communications Officer, Gushwell Brooks, conducted a number of interviews with his colleagues from across the region. These interviews were captured on video and the audio is then broadcast during the radio slot.

These interviews are currently being broadcast with the first having aired on the 17th of May 2016, featuring Tendai Makoni, JRS Zimbabwe, Country Co-ordinator and then followed by Luamonazo (Mona) Panda, JRS Angola, Country Director, on the 23rd May 2016. Johan Viljoen, JRS South Africa Country Director, assisted with translation as Mona speaks Portuguese as a first language. Mona gave great insight into the unique nature of the work we do in Angola.

Whereas the focus throughout the region is based on interventions and projects such as psycho-social interventions, education, emergency assistance for urban refugees and asylum seekers and healthcare at a primary level, the focus in Angola is largely based on Advocacy. Mona and his team are therefore actively petitioning government to protect the rights of refugees and asylum seekers. The video of the interview follows below:

Our next guest is JRS Malawi, Country Director, Rufino Seva, which can be live streamed here, today, on the 30th May 2016 at 16:30 PM.
