Pie-Pacifique found his catharsis in writing his story, which he hopes to be published by mid-year.

Johannesburg, 29 February 2016 - Pie-Pacifique Kabalira-Uwase, is a refugee from Rwanda as well as the Chair of the Advisory Council to JRS Southern Africa and he has a fascinating tale to tell. He took the time from his extremely busy schedule to chat to us on the JRS half an hour radio slot on Radio Veritas, last week Monday, 22nd February 2016.

Pie-Pacifique, as he puts it, was born into conflict as his father was a prominent politician where he grew up. He lost his father at the very young age of nine years old in 1989, and following the horrific genocide in Rwanda, he lost his only brother as a teenager.

Today, Pie-Pacifique is a successful, content man, with an infectious smile. He is authoring his biography entitled, “Beyond Forgiveness”, and has a tragic yet redemptive tale of overcoming the odds to tell. He shared the intricate detail of the tragedy he witnessed, lived through as well as the intimacy of the relationship he shares with his mother.

Only one question arises, how does someone survive such a devastating series of events and emerge centred, optimistic and sane? Pie-Pacifique found his catharsis in writing his story, which he hopes to be published by mid-year.

The radio programme is aired weekly, at 16:30 PM every Monday, and is hosted by the JRS Southern Africa Regional Communications Officer, Gushwell Brooks. Harmone Mokadju, a refugee from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) assisted by JRS, as well as JRS South Africa Livelihoods Officer, Tatenda Chikomba, will be chatting to us about what the Livelihoods Programme does for refugees, on Monday the 29th February 2016. This conversation will be broadcast live at 16:30PM. The programme can be streamed here.
